Search engine optimization is a great tool used for getting high page rank by using some of the methods listed below.

Search engine optimization is used by internet marketers to improve quantity and quality traffic to their web site by using organic and algorithmic methods. SEO is all about optimizing your website so that it will rank higher on search engines.

Search engine ranking is the spot that your site occupies when a search is done using keywords you are targeting on your site. The higher your site’s location in the search engine results pages the more people will see it and potentially click on your listing, bringing you more traffic. Most searchers never look beyond the first page of search results.

Search engine optimization is important because if you can get your site listed in the Google top ten for your search terms you will get considerably more traffic than if your listing shows up on any consequent pages.

You can use on page or off page SEO to drive traffic to your site.

On page search engine optimization is the use of certain keywords, Meta tags, html coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

Off page search engine optimization is mainly based around back links. Back links are incoming or inbound links pointing to your website. The quantity and quality of the back links is a good indication of the popularity of your website.

There are a lot of ways to get back links. You can build relationships with other webmasters to get conventional reciprocal links from other related sites.

Get involved in forums related to your topic and be sure to have a link to your site as part of your ‘signature’. Write articles for article directories which include a link back to your site in the ‘bio box’. Create Squidoo lenses or Hub Pages with; you guessed it, a link back to your site.

If you have a blog submit your RSS feed to RSS Aggregator sites, and add it to your Hub page or Squidoo Lens. Use Social Bookmarking services to bookmark your pages and encourage your visitors to do the same. Use Twitter to send out a ‘tweet’ when you post a new article. This is just to get you started; it’s not an exhaustive list by any means.

It is important that you choose good anchor text for your back links. The anchor text is the text that turns into the hyperlink (it’s often blue, sometimes underlined).So where you can, specify what the anchor text will be. You want to use your main keywords as well as variations. Try to differentiate them a bit, while still keeping it in comparison. Keep in mind that the keywords you use when you are linking to a specific page are not necessarily going to be the same as when you are linking to your homepage.

Just keep in mind when you’re trying to get a high page rank that search engines look at 90% back links and 10% other. Focus on getting relevant back links and a lot of them.
